Reimagining English Language Teaching in the Age of AI: Osmania University Announces Landmark International Conference

The intersection of technology and language education has reached a fascinating turning point. With Artificial Intelligence, advanced digital interfaces, and rapidly shifting global employment markets redefining how we communicate, traditional pedagogical frameworks are evolving.

To navigate, adapt, and lead this transformation, the historic Department of English at Osmania University has announced a two-day International Conference designed to establish an intellectual bridge between language, literature, technology, and global professional readiness.

The Paradigm Shift in English Language Teaching

The field of English Language Teaching (ELT) is currently undergoing a major evolution. The introduction of AI-enabled tools, mobile-assisted platforms, and technology-assisted environments has fundamentally altered classroom dynamics. Today, language educators are not just teaching vocabulary and grammar; they are tasked with building multifaceted competencies, including intercultural sensitivity, advanced soft skills, professional agility, and critical thinking.

In India, this technological momentum aligns perfectly with the mandates of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The policy underscores the importance of deep-seated multilingualism, contextual experiential learning, fluid technology integration, and an educational delivery system tailored directly toward employability. This international conference serves as a strategic collaborative arena for faculty members and research scholars to dissect these shifting environments.

📅 Conference at a Glance

* Theme: Reimagining English Language Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (Bridging Language, Literature, Technology, and Global Employability) * Dates: 2–3 July 2026 (Thursday and Friday) * Host Venue: Department of English, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana, India * Sponsorship: Organized under the prestigious RUSA 2.0 framework

A Rich Legacy: About the Host Institution

Osmania University

Established in 1917, Osmania University stands proudly as India's seventh oldest university and the third oldest in South India. Over more than a century, its sprawling 1,300-acre campus has served as a crucible for exceptional talent, supporting approximately 3.2 lakh learners across 720 affiliated colleges. Boasting a robust 'A+' Grade accreditation from NAAC, it acts as a magnet for global education, currently hosting over 1,000 foreign students from 64 countries. Its distinguished alumni include former Prime Ministers, scholars, scientists, and contributors to arts and culture.

The Department of English

The hosting Department of English, formed in 1918, carries an equally pioneering academic record. It holds the distinction of being the first department in the country to formally introduce American Literature (1956–57) and General Linguistics with Spoken English (1972–73) into the master's curriculum. Supported historically by the UGC Special Assistance Programme (SAP), the department continues to spearhead innovative research through the active Osmania University English Forum and its respected peer-reviewed publication, the Osmania Journal of English Studies (OJES).

Keynote Spotlight: Global Expertise

The conference will feature a keynote address by one of the world's leading figures in applied linguistics:
