Call for Papers: National Seminar on "Narratives of Nature" (Hybrid Mode)

Are you an academic, researcher, or student working in the Environmental Humanities? There is an exciting opportunity to share your research. Umeschandra College (City College, Morning), Kolkata, in collaboration with its IQAC, is organizing a National Seminar titled "Narratives of Nature: Ecosophy, Literature and Sustainable Future."

Even better news? The abstract submission date has just been extended! Here is everything you need to know to get your proposal ready for this hybrid event.

🌍 The Theme: Why Ecosophy & Literature Matter Now

Borrowing the famous words of Rachel Carson from her seminal 1962 book Silent Spring"In nature, nothing lives alone"—this seminar seeks to dive deep into earth-centric rather than human-centric perspectives. In an era of unprecedented climate crisis, the seminar aims to challenge the fantasy of human exceptionalism and explore the beautiful, messy entanglements of the human and non-human worlds through literature and art.

💡 Quick Recommendation for Your Reading List:

If you haven't read the book that sparked the modern environmental movement, you absolutely must check out Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (Anniversary Edition) on Amazon. It’s foundational reading for any eco-critic!

Key Sub-Themes for Abstract Submission

  • Eco-Poetics & Eco-Aesthetics: The literature of sustainability.

  • Eco-Feminism & Subaltern Ecology: Ethics of care and resistance.

  • The Non-Human World: Plant studies, marine ecology, arboreal ethics, and animal encounters.

  • Modern Eco-Politics: Carbon economy, global crisis, and the philosophy of waste.

  • Digital & Anthropocene Frontiers: Posthuman ecology, eco-linguistics, and digital technologies.

🗓️ Crucial Dates & Deadlines

Mark your academic calendars! The extended timeline is as follows:

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: July 10, 2026

  • Notification of Acceptance: July 12, 2026

  • Registration Deadline: July 15, 2026

  • Full Paper Submission & Seminar Date: July 18, 2026
