Exploring Cultural Intersections: National Seminar on English Literature and Indian Heritage

National Seminar: English Literature as an Interface of Indian Cultural Heritage

The Department of English Studies and Research at Jagdish Saran Hindu Postgraduate College (JSHPG College), Amroha, is proud to announce a two-day National Seminar. This event explores the profound connections between global English literature and India’s rich civilizational legacy.

Taking place in a Hybrid Mode on 16-17 May 2026, this seminar is proudly sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Theme: Past, Present, and Future of Indian Cultural Heritage in Literature

Indian cultural heritage—encompassing its epics, philosophy, and spirituality—has long influenced the literary imagination of the West. From the impact of the Upanishads on writers like Thoreau and Emerson to the modern globalization of Indian Writing in English (IWE) by authors like Salman Rushdie and Arundhati Roy, this seminar examines the English language as a medium for cultural assertion.

The event aims to foreground India’s evolving role as Vishwaguru in civilizational and ethical discourse while providing a platform for scholars to engage with contemporary interdisciplinary domains.
