Exploring the Tapestry of Culture: KSOU to Host Two-Day International Conference on Cinema, Literature, and Culture

The Department of Studies and Research in English at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru, is proud to announce a Two-Day International Conference on “The Confluence of Cinema, Literature & Culture”, scheduled for November 3rd and 4th, 2025, at the Kaveri Auditorium, KSOU campus.

This highly anticipated academic event brings together scholars, researchers, educators, and students from around the globe to explore the deep interconnections between literature, cinema, and culture. As storytelling mediums that mirror and mold societal values, both literature and cinema provide powerful lenses through which we examine our past, present, and future. This conference offers a dynamic space to unpack these themes across a wide range of contexts.

🎯 Theme and Vision

The central theme—“The Confluence of Cinema, Literature & Culture”—aims to foster scholarly dialogue on how these disciplines inform and influence each other. Literature, with its vast emotional and philosophical scope, and cinema, with its potent visual and narrative impact, together shape and reflect cultural narratives. The conference seeks to interrogate these synergies while also addressing the challenges posed by commercialization and technological shifts such as OTT platforms and web series.

🧠 Sub-Themes Include:

  • Emotions in Cinema and Literature

  • Decolonizing Screens

  • Queer Narratives

  • Cinematic Mythmaking and Literary Archetypes

  • Trauma and Psychological Narratives

  • Gastronomic Identities in Cinema and Literature

  • Children’s Narratives

  • Ecological Issues

  • North-South Divide in Indian Cinema

  • Literature and Cinema as a Medium of Education

  • Regional, Indigenous, and Folk Narratives

  • Decline of Traditional Cinema and Literature in the Age of OTT

Participants are welcome to submit papers beyond these topics, as long as they align with the core theme.
