Sustainable Multilingualism: Language, Culture And Society

Kaunas29-30 May 2015
The aim of the conference is to assemble general and higher education language professionals, researchers, experts, politicians and other stakeholders to discuss innovations in the field of sustainable multilingualism development in the society, language didactics and intercultural communication development.
Conference languages: English, French, German, Lithuanian and Russian.

The conference discussions will proceed in four stages:

  • PLENARY SESSIONS
  • ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: Multilingual Challenges in Language Teacher Training: Needs and Best Practices
  • ORAL, POSTER, AND VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
  • SEMINARS

Conference topics (not limited to):

  • Language Policy
  • Innovations in language teaching and learning
  • Language teaching and learning in a multicultural class
  • Problems in teaching and learning less commonly taught  languages
  • Intercultural communication development
  • Sociolinguistic aspects of multilingualism
  • Linguistic issues in multilingualism
  • Multilingualism and identity
  • Translation in multilingual and multicultural society
  • Multilingualism in literature, cinema and theatre

Requirements for presentations:

  • In a parallel session, the total presentation time should be about 20 minutes (including 5 minutes for discussion).
  • For poster presentations, we suggest 2 x A3 pages or a single A2 page for your presentation layout. The authors of poster presentations have to be present during the poster presentations session;
  • If you are unable to give your talk in person, you can make a virtual presentation by creating a self-running slide show that includes a written commentary or a voice narration. The deadline for submitting virtual presentations (dks@uki.vdu.lt) is the 10th of May.

Deadlines:

Before 1 February 2015 – registration and abstract submission for non-EU participants (who need visas)
Before 10 February 2015 – notification of acceptance for non-EU participants
Before 1 March 2015 – registration and abstract submission for EU participants
Before 10 March 2015 – notification of acceptance for EU participants
Before 11 May 2015 – registration for non-presenters

Participant fee:

(conference material, traditional Lithuanian snacks and coffee)
Before 23 April 2015 – 100 €
After 23 April 2015  – 120 €
Student fee before 23 April 2015 – 55 €
Student fee after 23 April 2015 – 45 €
Fee for virtual presentation (without attending the conference in person) – 60 €
Fee for attending the conference without a presentation – 30 €
More detailed information concerning the payment of the participant fee will be provided later.

Cultural programme

Visiting Open Air Museum of Lithuania in Rumšiškės – 10 €
Reception with traditional Lithuanian dishes – 20 €

Publications:

  • ISBN on-line reviewed publication of selected articles.
  • Selected articles will be published in the refereed journal “DARNIOJI DAUGIAKALBYSTĖ/ SUSTAINABLE MULTILINGUALISM”. Print copy: ISSN 2335-2019, Online copy: ISSN 2335-2027, Journal website: http://uki.vdu.lt/sm
