Call for Chapters: Travel by Cinema: From Screen to Scene

Are you a researcher or academic interested in the intersection of film and tourism? A new edited volume is seeking chapter submissions for a book titled "Travel by Cinema: From Screen to Scene". This book will explore the cultural, economic, and experiential dimensions of how cinema transforms real-world locations into global travel destinations.

The book, which will be published by Wiley and Elsevier Scopus, will cover a range of themes related to film tourism. The main focus is on how movies influence travel, and submissions are invited on a variety of topics, including:

  • Theoretical Frameworks in Film Tourism: This includes concepts like place-making, cinematic imagination, and narrative transport.

  • Cinematic Landscapes and Destination Branding: How films shape the image of a destination and how popular culture is used for place branding.

  • Fan Pilgrimage and Experiential Tourism: The motivations and behaviors of film tourists, including fan pilgrimages to iconic cinematic sites like those from Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings.

  • Film Locations as Living Heritage and Cultural Assets: The preservation and commodification of film locations, and the tensions between tourism and local culture.

  • Policy and Governance: The role of government and the private sector in supporting film production and tourism.

  • Technological Shifts: The impact of virtual and augmented reality, social media, and online fan communities on film tourism.

  • Case Studies: This covers a range of case studies based on genre, geography (Asia, Europe, Americas, Africa, Oceania), and the dynamics of urban vs. rural tourism.

  • Ethical and Sustainability Issues: Addressing concerns like over-tourism and responsible storytelling and visitor management.
