International Seminar on Gender, Literature, and Society: Building Inclusive Dialogues for the Future

International Seminar on Gender, Literature, and Society: Building Inclusive Dialogues for the Future

The School of Letters, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, is hosting an International Seminar that aims to create a vibrant platform for academic and cultural exchange. This two-day event brings together distinguished scholars, writers, activists, and thought leaders to engage in critical conversations about gender, sexuality, literature, and power structures shaping our world today.

From Simone de Beauvoir’s groundbreaking work The Second Sex to the powerful voices of Kate Millet, Bell Hooks, Audre Lorde, Judith Butler, and more, gender studies have continually reshaped the way we perceive society. In Kerala’s literary and cultural context, these debates have been deeply intertwined with activism and storytelling since the early 20th century.

The seminar will feature plenary talks, paper presentations, and panel discussions on pressing issues such as intersectionality, gendered violence, literary representations, and performative narratives. Notable speakers include Dr. Meena Kandasamy (Writer & Activist), Dr. Joseph Lawless (William and Mary College, USA), CK Janu (President, Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha), Anuraj M (Queer Rights Activist), and several other leading voices from academia and activism.

For leaders and organizations, this seminar is more than an academic exercise—it is a call to rethink inclusion, diversity, and empowerment in the workplace and beyond. By fostering critical dialogues, the event emphasizes how culture, literature, and activism can inspire actionable strategies for a more equitable future.
